The New Forest was originally commandeered in 1079 as a deer hunting area by the king, William the Conqueror. It is a unique area of historical, ecological and agricultural significance, and retains many of the rural practices conceded by the Crown in medieval times to local people. Principal of these is the pasturing of ponies, cattle, pigs and donkeys in the open Forest by local inhabitants known as Commoners. It is an outstanding recreational area for walking and riding.

Places to Visit in the New Forest:
The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in the heart of the New Forest is one of the world's finest motor car, motor vehicles and motorcycle museums.

At the park visitors can see more than 150 primates of 15 different species.
